Start your adventure at our beginnings – The Cradle of Humankind. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, the 131,000-acre preserve sits about 50 km northwest of Johannesburg and draws visitors from around the world. Be captivated by the site’s succulent gardens and expansive views of the surrounding grasslands and rocky hills, before entering the adjacent Maropeng Visitor Centre.
The acclaimed museum’s interactive exhibits follow the origins of humankind – from our early ancestors that lived in the caves nearby to the present day. The scientific and historical displays mesmerize visitors of all ages with their depth, and since many are hands-on, you will have the opportunity to touch and see your way through human history.
From the past, you’ll step into the present at the Lesesdi Cultural Village. The Cultural Village – home to five African tribes, an arts and crafts market, and traditional African homes – immerses visitors in an authentic cultural experience. Known for their hospitality and warmth, the Village’s peoples – the Zulu, Xhosa, Ndebele, Sotho and Pedi – will welcome you as you explore their history and customs on this multilingual, multi-visual historical tour.
Finally, experience a traditional African meal in an open-air dining area – a relaxing end to a day of new experiences.
